A Prayer for Peace

In the words of Archbishop Hosam, with people around the world, we pray:

O God of all justice and peace we cry out to you in the midst of the pain and trauma of violence and fear which prevails in the Holy Land. Be with those who need you in these days of suffering; we pray for people of all faiths – Jews, Muslims and Christians and for all people of the land. While we pray to you, O Lord, for an end to violence and the establishment of peace, we also call for you to bring justice and equity to the peoples. Guide us into your kingdom where all people are treated with dignity and honour as your children for, to all of us, you are our Heavenly Father. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY 2026 - One Body One Spirit

This year the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity takes Ephesians 4.1-13 as its central text which includes the words “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling.” (Ephesians 4:4). The prayer and reflections have been prepared by Christians of Armenian Apostolic (Orthodox) Church, along with their brothers and sisters of the Armenian Catholic and Evangelical Churches.

Here in Saltburn we will join together with our brothers and sisters in Christ on the following occasions for fellowship, study, prayer and worship: Thursday 22nd January 2026 at Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church at 7.00pm
Sunday 25th January 2026 at Saltburn Methodist Church at 3.00pm

Dear Parishioner,

Emmanuel Church offers a number of good opportunities to pray together, including...
MORNING PRAYER ON ZOOM each week day at 9.00am
NIGHT PRAYER on Mondays at 8.00pm
EVENING PRAYER on Thursdays at 5.30pm

You may have read in the book handed out recently - 'Before You Share Your Faith' by Matt Smethurst - a quote from Megan Hill on gathering for prayer from her book 'A Place to Belong'. I found it very encouraging, and a good reminder of why I gather to pray. So I thought it good to share it with you here: 'A church prayer meeting doesn't look like much. A group of people spending an hour with their eyes closed taking turns addressing an unseen God is unlikely to draw the acclaim of the world. At best, it seems like a quaint ritual. At worst, outright foolishness... The people of the world dismiss our intercessions with barely a thought. But though they don't know it, the church at prayer is their very best friend. People walking in darkness have no better ally than a group of believers on their knees, united in the work of pleading for the light of Christ to shine in their undying souls.'
So, be encouraged in your praying, and take the time to pray with your brothers and sisters in Christ.
Every blessing

Dear Parishioner,

This morning at Emmanuel we heard a most moving and powerful testimony from Musa. I suspect everyone present who heard Musa' words and story spoken by Geoff would have been deeply affected. Steve acknowledged this as he began his sermon; and, personally, I struggled to hold back the tears as I gave him the bread of Communion, the Body of Christ.
After the service Musa sent the email to Geoff to which there is a link below and I hope will give you further encouragement to pray for him and his family, and to pray for the church in Iran: Thank you so much for today at church. When I received this kindness, I was so deeply moved that I cried all the way home. From the bottom of my heart I prayed for all of you.
I asked God to pour out His blessing, health, and healing upon each one of you. May He grant you long life, and in the world to come may we all be together with God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ.
I also prayed that Jesus Christ will touch and heal all those who are sick in the church, and even those whom we do not know about but who carry heavy burdens because of sickness in their families. May their hearts be filled with hope in Jesus Christ, and may they never feel abandoned.
And for all those who showed me kindness and stood with me in compassion, I asked our Heavenly Father to surround them with His mercy, fill them with joy, and reward them richly in His love.
Once again, I thank you with all my heart. You are truly my family in Christ.

So we pray for Musa and his family, as well as our brothers and sisters in Christ in Iran. What joy there would be if that country was set free in Christ!
Every blessing
Adam
